UM vs. Illinois (BBALL)

Jordan Morgan left the game early with an ankle injury, leaving McGary as the only big man to have seen significant action this year.

But the other big fellas stepped up.

Horford stepped up and put up a respectable 7 points, along with grabbing 4 boards. Bielfeldt got to play! He had a nice basket underneath and did a fine job of getting to the foul line.

Horford and Bielfeldt revealed something I haven't yet noticed this year: depth. Note that this Illinois team is not a bad team. They won their first 12 games, and beat Ohio State by 19 points. Bielfeldt and Horford performed well against a solid Big Ten squad.

Besides depth, the most important thing to take away from this game is #1 RANKING!

Michigan is #1 for the first time since 1992. Whether or not they deserve it does not detract from its significance. The utter disappointment I've experienced with this program is over. Michigan will maintain its status as a contender for (at least) the immediate upcoming years. Hardaway and Burke are likely to leave for the draft next year, but they leave behind a solid freshman class led by GRIII and Stauskas.

Speaking of Stauskas...

STAUSKAS OVERRATED AND ONE-DIMENSIONAL PLAYER WATCH FOR SAM:
14 points (2nd on the team)
6/10 shooting (That's 60%, Sam) (Also: note only 2 of those makes came beyond the arc)
2 assists and...
1 solid block
One Dimensional Player right?
Fuck you, Sam.

Bruins v Hurricanes Preview

Bruins v Hurricanes Preview

The Bruins are traveling to Carolina to face the Hurricanes tonight. The Canes are the definition of mediocrity. They have 4 points in 4 games, and a goal differential of -2. Despite this, the Bruins cannot look past tonight.

UM v WMU Long Ass Recap

UM v WMU Recap, but mostly random shit

This post will be my thoughts on the second WMU game combined with thoughts on the season. The game was a pretty good representation of the season as a whole. Basically, these will be my random thoughts on the game.

In Another Opinion...

Gram listed his opinion of the teams we cover, so I'll give mine in a nutshell:

Michigan Football: Shane Morris + Derrick Green + Kalis + more badass linemen = a future offense that has as much hype as Henne, Hart, Long, and Manningham. Hopefully they'll live up to expectations better than their predecessors.

Michigan Basketball: Most athletic team in years. This is the best squad I can remember (all 8 years or so I've been aware of their play).  They are still fairly young, but this freshman class is the best since the fab 5. That said, their youth often becomes a factor when they play. In order for this to be our year, they are going to have to cut down on the mistakes quickly, especially with how talented the Big Ten is this year. Beat Sparty and OSU please.

Michigan Hockey: Luckily, the year I got season tickets this team is having one of its worst years ever.

My Opinion on Teams Right Now

People may have interest on what we think of certain teams.

Bruins: Bigger and Badder than any wanna be, gonnabe, cocksuckin', pussy-eatin' prankstas

Patriots: Perfection when winning super bowls. Now, the Pats are the Colts. Hopefully Spikes, Hightower, Jones, and the rest can bring back the glory days.

Red Sox: Bunch a' money grubbin whores

Secondary Reaction to Derrick Green's Commitment

FUCK YEAH!!!!

Here's a video of the 6'0" 220 Ib. tailback:

I'll take a 5-star power back any day of the week. Get big Blue.

Think about this: Derrick Green running behind Kyle Kalis for at least 3 years. This calls for an MGoBlog term to appropriately celebrate the occasion: MANBALL!

Immediate Reaction to Derrick Green

FUCK YES!!!!!!!!

Further Introduction

Along with Jeremy, I will be covering Michigan Football.  I will also cover Michigan basketball and do weekly recruiting recaps. From time to time, I will cover Detroit sports. For Detroit, I will usually complain about the Lions and Pistons, and use this emoticon- :/ when Ilitch signs washed up 37 year olds to 26 million dollar contracts.

If you came here to read about the Red Wings, don't bother reading any more. I only watch the Red Wings during the playoffs (Pseudo-Hockeytown pride FTW). Don't bother asking Jeremy about the Red Wings. He'll tell you all about their Euro-trash style of play and send you back a six paragraph essay boasting about the superiority of the Bruin's physicality.

If you came here to read about the Boston Celtics, well we both hate the Celtics. End of story.

Hope you enjoy our mediocre to sub-par analysis of Boston, Detroit, and Michigan sports.

Thoughts On Tyler Seguin's Slow Start

Much has been made about Tyler Seguin having 1 point in the first 4 games. Some say he doesn't battle in the corners enough, but I don't think that is it. Obviously I am not an expert, but it seems like he isn't assertive enough. How many times has he been the guy carrying the puck deep in the zone? On the powerplay, how often does he walk off the half wall to rip a shot?

I think the adjustment from Switzerland is having an impact. Over there, him and Patrick Kane were the guys. Here, it seems like he is deferring to Bergeron. Bergeron may be awesome, but he does not have the offensive skill of Seguin. Seguin should set the tempo for that line. I also think the adjustment back to wing has been tough for Seguin. In Switzerland he played center, and excelled. Now he is asked to move back to wing. He is going down low more often in the defensive zone (where the center plays), and doesn't seem as comfortable carrying the puck up the wing as he down the middle.

Seguin is an incredible talent, and he will turn it around, but with no production from the 3rd line, the Bruins need to get scoring from their best offensive player.

Bruins Recap. The Week that Was.

One week in the books. The Bruins are 3-0-1. Awesome, but outside of the first game against the Rangers, they haven't played great in any game.

Rangers (1/19)
Great opening performance by the team. They were surprisingly sharp. Lucic showed those of us who thought he would be fat, that he is ready for the season. Overall, I loved the physicality of the Bruins. They punished the Rangers in a game that seemed more like a game 1 of the divisional playoffs, rather than game 1 of the regular season.

Thrashers (fake Jets) (1/21)
As with most matinees, the Bruins were sluggish. However, they still grabbed 2 points, and that is most important. But they should dominate shitty teams, and they didn't do that. The big takeaway out of that game is that I never want to see Aaron Johnson play hockey again. He had a "hit" against Fat Fuck Byfuglien, but that was more Byfuglien tripping.

Rangers (1/23)
What the hell were the Bruins doing in the first period. Did they think they were playing the Thrashers or Islanders. The defense was atrocious. Chara looked lost. I have no clue what Mcquaid was doing on the 2nd goal. Luckily, Tuukka is nasty. They did not deserve a point, but they got one. Defensive performances like that from a team that prides itself on defense cannot happen consistently.

Islanders (1/25)
Boring game. That's about all I can say about that. Except that Lucic can punch. Also, holy shit can Dougie Hamilton pass. Kid has looked really sharp since midway through the first Rangers game. Hopefully he can continue to improve in the defensive zone, but I have been surprised by his physicality.

Overall, a good week, but the Bruins need to be better when good teams come to town.

Introduction

This Blog is something me and Sutton decided we want to try. We both love UM sports, and spend enough time talking about it, so why not throw it up online. I'll also write about Boston sports, and Sutton may hit Detroit stuff.
